Unboxing The Corsair K70 RGB TKL OPX Optical Mechanical Keyboard

Following the success of the Champion Series K70 RGB TKL keyboard that came out last year, Corsair just announced a new Optical Mechanical Switch variant for the famous K70 TKL Keyboard. This new variant is called Corsair K70 TKL OPX(Optical Axis Version). K70 from Corsair has been a very successful keyboard as it packed a compact form factor with a fully backlit RGB design. Optical Mechanical Switches have now changed the game for gamers with their ultra-fast response time and smooth keypress. With Corsair’s latest AXON Hyper-Processing Technology, the keyboard can reach an 8000Hz polling rate. Most keyboards in the market reach a maximum of 1000hz, so this beast here is super responsive. We have got a unit of Corsair TKL K70 OPX here with us, let’s start with its unboxing today. You can also check out the unboxing of K70 on our YouTube channel here.

Design & Build:-

Wow, the keyboard looks simply wonderful. It has a solid black finish that looks simply beautiful. The frame here has a robust polished finish with a Type-C connector port at the top. Alongside this Type-C port, we also have the tournament switch(that limits RGB to single light and disables macros). Keycaps here also have a matching black finish with Transparent legends printed on to them. The keyboard has a slightly elevated keycap height ranging from R1-R4 heights from the bottom to the top. There’s a multi-function programmable scroll wheel located at the top-right corner along with a mute key. This scroll works smoothly. There are three keys accompanying this scroll wheel, these are for user profile switching, RGB backlight cycling, and Windows Disable and Enable key. If you just talk about the build and finish of the K70 RGB TKL OPX keyboard, let us assure you the keyboard looks spectacular. It is nicely built and has a smooth keystroke for every single key. The included cable here is fully braided and also looks quite solid.

Feeling The Keys:-

The keycaps here are made up of high-quality PBT material. They have a very rich and matte finish to them. These are made using dual-sided injection molding technology with transparent Legends for RGB lights to come through and maintain better visibility even in dark conditions. The keycaps have a non-slip and oil-resistant surface. Right below these keycaps is what makes this keyboard special. The K70 RGB TKL OPX uses high-speed Optical Mechanical Switches. These have a linear axis with a short trigger. Corsair has advertised these switches to have an ultra-long life span of up to 150 million keystrokes. The switches have smooth feedback with a soft acoustic sound upon each keypress. Loved the set here.

iCue Software Integration:-

Corsair K70 RGB TKL OPX keyboard has got full implementation in their own iCue software. We can use it to adjust the lighting effect and other settings. One can easily map a different color to each and every single key. By default when we connect the Keyboard to a system, it starts at a 1000Hz polling rate. To change that, we get an option to go as high as 8000Hz(thanks to the AXON Technology here), we can easily adjust it using the iCue software too. With the help of iCue software, we can also create different macros and also program the scroll wheel for function. Now the best part is on the iCue software we can create user profiles with different polling rates, and different RGB effects. These user profiles can be easily switched using the profile switching key near the scroll wheel. We can save up to 20 user profiles on the keyboard.

Operating The Corsair K70 RGB TKL OPX Keyboard:-

First of all, the Corsair K70 RGB TKL OPX is quite compact and saves us on desk space. Now coming to using it for day-to-day usage, well the Keyboard offers a comfortable typing experience with a smooth and linear keypress. Each keypress was registered successfully with no delay whatsoever. The keycap height and built structure are really good to provide a comfortable typing experience. When we turn the Tournament mode on(using the switch near the Type-C connector), the RGB effects switch into single color Red. This also disables the macros for accidental presses.
