8Bitdo Released Retro 108 Three-Mode Mechanical Keyboard: Expands Retro Keyboard Lineup
8Bitdo has introduced the Retro 108, a three-mode mechanical keyboard that further expands its retro-inspired lineup with enhanced features and functionality. Building on the brand’s characteristic blend of nostalgia and innovation, the Retro 108 provides users with a full-size keyboard complete with customizable features, three connectivity modes, and two distinct colorways.
The Retro 108 is available in two color versions: "N," reminiscent of classic gaming consoles, and "Fami," a nod to the original Famicom design. Each model maintains a clean, retro aesthetic while incorporating modern ergonomic and functional enhancements. The keyboard layout is a full array, which includes a dedicated number pad and multimedia keys. A distinguishing feature is the independent control panel in the upper left corner, offering easy access to connection mode switches, volume controls, and key mapping settings. A power indicator light is placed in the upper right corner, providing a quick visual cue for battery status.
Designed with durability and versatility in mind, the Retro 108 utilizes a top-mount structure, giving it a stable feel and consistent key response. The keyboard supports hot-swappable switches, allowing users to swap out switches without soldering, catering to enthusiasts who may want to customize the typing feel. 8Bitdo has equipped the Retro 108 with Kaihua BOX White V2 switches, known for their crisp tactile feedback and reliability. The switches are complemented by high-strength PBT keycaps, which feature MDA-like profiles for comfortable typing. These keycaps use dye-sublimation technology to ensure long-lasting legends that won’t fade over time, even with heavy use.
Battery life is another notable aspect, with the Retro 108 housing a built-in 2000mAh lithium-ion battery. This substantial battery capacity enables up to 200 hours of usage on a single charge, depending on user settings and backlighting options. The keyboard’s tri-mode connectivity includes Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz wireless, and wired options, offering flexibility for various devices and user preferences.
In keeping with 8Bitdo’s emphasis on customization, the Retro 108 includes a pair of programmable “super buttons” which allow users to assign specific macros or key functions according to their needs. Additionally, the keyboard features three "super jacks" positioned along the top edge, which are compatible with 8Bitdo's optional accessories like the Super Joystick and the Super ABXY keys. These jacks open up new possibilities for gaming and productivity setups by allowing users to integrate external controls directly into the keyboard.
The 8Bitdo Retro 108 is currently available for pre-sale in overseas markets at an initial price of $119.99, positioning it competitively within the mechanical keyboard market. With its retro appeal, extensive features, and multi-mode connectivity, the Retro 108 is likely to appeal to both gaming enthusiasts and keyboard aficionados looking for a blend of classic design and modern functionality.
