8Bitdo Unveils NES-Themed Retro R8 Mouse with Classic Console Aesthetics
8Bitdo has officially announced a new variant of its Retro R8 mouse, drawing inspiration from the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The company revealed the NES-themed Retro R8 mouse on April 23, and it is expected to be released for sale in late May. The device is currently available for pre-order on international platforms with a listed price of $49.99.
The new mouse keeps the same hardware and features as the previously released green version of the Retro R8 but adopts the visual style of the classic NES console. The design includes a combination of white, gray, and red accents that match the color scheme of the original NES hardware. The included charging base also follows this design theme, completing a consistent retro aesthetic. The mouse is intended to complement 8Bitdo’s Retro108 series mechanical keyboard, creating a matching desktop setup for fans of vintage gaming hardware.
The Retro R8 mouse uses the PAW 3395 optical sensor, supporting DPI settings ranging from 50 to 26,000. It supports three types of connectivity: Bluetooth, 2.4GHz wireless, and USB-C wired. This provides flexibility for users across different devices and use cases. The mouse also comes with a dedicated charging dock, which not only charges the mouse but includes built-in storage for the 2.4GHz USB receiver and is designed to help enhance signal stability.
In terms of design, the mouse shell features a symmetrical layout, making it suitable for both right-handed and left-handed users. It includes a built-in 450mAh battery. According to 8Bitdo’s official specifications, the battery can last up to 100 hours on Bluetooth mode and between 26 to 105 hours on 2.4GHz wireless mode, depending on usage patterns.
While the Retro R8 does not introduce new functions over the previous model, the NES-themed colorway is aimed at retro gaming enthusiasts and users who want to bring a touch of nostalgia to their setups. The matching design with 8Bitdo's other retro-themed accessories could make it appealing to those looking to build a coordinated look on their desks.
With a launch scheduled for the end of May, the mouse will be available through major online retailers and is expected to ship globally. 8Bitdo has not yet announced if there will be any limited-edition packaging or bundles offered alongside the release.
