CHERRY Announces K5 PRO TMR and MX 8.2 PRO TMR Keyboards with Magnetic Switch Technology
CHERRY has announced the launch of two new mechanical keyboards, the CHERRY K5 PRO TMR and the CHERRY MX 8.2 PRO TMR, both featuring magnetic switch technology. The keyboards are available in black and white color options and aim to offer a more responsive and customizable typing experience.
CHERRY K5 PRO TMR: Compact Design with Advanced Sensing
The CHERRY K5 PRO TMR adopts a 65% layout, making it a compact option for users who want to save desk space without giving up essential keys. It features CHERRY’s MK ink crystal magnetic switches, which enable precise control over keystroke travel and actuation. The switches support full-range custom travel with 0.01mm accuracy, allowing users to fine-tune the actuation point to suit different typing or gaming preferences.
The keyboard offers a high 8,000 Hz report rate and a 16,000 Hz scan rate, enabling a response time of under 0.3 milliseconds. This makes it suitable for fast-paced gaming environments where input lag needs to be minimized. RGB backlighting is also included, offering customizable lighting effects.
The magnetic resistance sensing used in the K5 PRO TMR allows for consistent key registration. Combined with per-key adjustment and precise triggering, this feature aims to give users more control over how each key behaves.
CHERRY MX 8.2 PRO TMR: A Hybrid Approach
The CHERRY MX 8.2 PRO TMR retains the company’s recognizable 87-key TKL (tenkeyless) layout and features an aluminum alloy top case. While it continues the design language of previous models, it introduces a magnetic switch PCB board liner. Notably, the board is compatible with both magnetic and traditional mechanical switches, providing flexibility for users who may want to switch between the two.
The keyboard includes tri-mode connectivity, offering wired, Bluetooth, and 2.4GHz wireless options. It is powered by an 8000mAh battery, which CHERRY states can deliver up to 300 hours of usage in Bluetooth mode with lighting turned off. Fast charging support is also included.
Internally, the keyboard is built with a five-layer sound-dampening and cushioning system. This includes a Poron sandwich layer, IXPE switch pad, PET voice actor pad, switch seat bottom cotton, and sound-absorbing bottom cotton. The combination is designed to reduce noise and improve typing feel.
The MX 8.2 PRO TMR uses a customized “magic crystal” magnetic switch. These switches have an initial actuation force of 30gf, increasing to 38gf at 2mm of travel. They offer a total key travel of 3.5mm and use a cross-shaped stem for compatibility with standard keycaps. The transparent switch housing is filled with glitter powder for added visual appeal.
Similar to the K5 PRO TMR, this model also supports 0.01mm actuation precision, an 8K return rate, and a 16K scan rate.
Both new keyboards expand CHERRY’s lineup of magnetic switch products, targeting users looking for high performance, precision, and customization in their input devices.
