Kailh Introduces New Galaxy Series Magnetic Switches: Star and Moon Variants
Kailh has announced the release of two new magnetic switches under its Galaxy series, marking a continued effort to broaden its lineup of mechanical switch options. The new additions are called the Star Magnetic Switch and the Moon Magnetic Switch, each designed with different structural features to suit various lighting and usage environments.
The switches introduce unique light guide column designs that distinguish them visually and functionally. Kailh has implemented several variations in the structure, including a hollow nebula light tunnel, a fully transparent dome, a frosted diamond-pattern bevel, arc reflection, and enhanced transmission elements. These design choices are aimed at optimizing the way light passes through or reflects off the switches, which can improve visual clarity and consistency in keyboards with RGB or other backlighting systems.
Both switches in the Galaxy series share the same key performance specifications. They feature an operating force of 35±5gf, making them relatively light and well-suited for both gaming and general typing. The total key travel is rated at 3.5±0.2mm, a standard range for many mechanical switches, providing a familiar feel for users coming from linear or tactile designs. One of the more notable specifications is the reset trigger (RT) accuracy, which is rated at up to 0.01mm. This level of precision is particularly important in magnetic switches, where actuation is based on changes in magnetic fields rather than physical contact.
Durability is another focus of this release. Kailh states that the switches are rated for over 100 million actuations, placing them among the more durable switch options currently on the market. This high endurance rating suggests that the Star and Moon switches are intended for long-term use, making them suitable for high-usage environments like gaming setups, office workstations, or enthusiast mechanical keyboards.
At this stage, Kailh has not confirmed which keyboard brands or models will be the first to include the new switches. No release dates or partner announcements have been made public yet. However, based on past patterns, it is likely that major keyboard manufacturers may begin integrating the new Galaxy series switches into their products in the coming months.
The introduction of the Star and Moon switches continues Kailh’s development of switch technologies with enhanced structural design and mechanical precision. As magnetic switch adoption grows, these new options add more variety to the market and provide manufacturers with additional tools to differentiate their keyboard offerings. Further updates from Kailh are expected as the switches begin to reach commercial products.
