Kailh Introduces Galaxy Series Star Magnetic Mini Low-Profile Switches for Faster Input Response
Kailh has officially released its latest keyboard switch innovation, the Galaxy Series Star Magnetic Mini Low-Profile Switches. The new switches aim to combine compact mechanical design with magnetic sensing technology to offer users faster actuation, improved durability, and a refined tactile experience.
At the core of the Star Magnetic Mini switches is Kailh’s magnetic switch system, a contactless mechanism designed for rapid and consistent input recognition. By relying on magnetic actuation rather than traditional metal contacts, the switches are built to reduce mechanical wear, leading to a significantly longer lifespan. Kailh states that these switches support a “billion-level” keystroke durability, far exceeding the typical lifespan of standard mechanical switches.
The Star Magnetic Mini features a compact form factor, with a height reduced by 50% compared to conventional switches. This low-profile design meets the growing demand for slim mechanical keyboards. The shorter switch height allows for thinner keyboard layouts and enables quicker finger travel, improving typing and gaming performance.
The switches are engineered with an emphasis on feel and acoustics. They feature a full POM (polyoxymethylene) guide core, which provides consistent keystroke stability. The PC (polycarbonate) transparent top housing adds to the visual appeal, especially for backlit keyboards, while the PA66 base ensures a solid structural foundation. Internally, a high-rebound spring is used to deliver a responsive and crisp feedback with each press.
Kailh has also focused on refining the sound signature. The Star Magnetic Mini switches are tuned to produce a clean, non-reverberating keystroke sound, aiming to strike a balance between gaming-grade response and a pleasant acoustic profile suitable for daily use. This makes the switches viable for both competitive gamers and users seeking a quieter typing experience.
The combination of magnetic actuation and a slim form factor makes the Star Magnetic Mini a versatile option for keyboard manufacturers and DIY builders. Kailh positions the switch as suitable for both high-speed typing and rapid gaming scenarios, where every millisecond of input delay can make a difference.
The Kailh Star Magnetic Mini switches are now available for purchase through online retailers such as MechKeys. As mechanical keyboard designs continue to trend toward slimmer profiles without sacrificing performance, these switches represent Kailh’s latest move to stay at the forefront of switch innovation.
