NIZ Launches L84 and L99 Low-Profile Electrostatic Capacitive Keyboards
NIZ, a keyboard manufacturer known for its electrostatic capacitive technology, has launched two new keyboard models—L84 and L99—through the Japanese crowdfunding platform Makuake. Both keyboards support three connection modes and feature the company's newly developed low-profile electrostatic capacitive switches.
The L99, positioned as the flagship model of the two, introduces a 99-key layout in a compact form factor. It is equipped with a new low-profile switch specifically designed for this product. These switches offer a total travel distance of 2.8mm and require 30 grams of actuation force. The actuation point is adjustable between 0.6mm and 2.6mm in 0.1mm increments. According to the manufacturer, the noise level during key presses ranges between 35 and 40 decibels, which is relatively quiet for mechanical-style switches. A mouse simulation feature is also included, allowing some keys to perform mouse functions.
The L99’s height from the front is 19mm, which increases to 24mm when fitted with its included double-color PBT keycaps. The low-profile design is aimed at providing a flatter typing angle and a more ergonomic experience without sacrificing switch feedback.
On the connectivity front, the keyboard supports three modes: wired USB Type-C, 2.4GHz wireless, and Bluetooth 5.2. The wired mode offers a polling rate of up to 8000Hz, while the 2.4GHz wireless connection supports a 1000Hz polling rate. The keyboard can maintain simultaneous connections with up to seven devices—one via cable, one through 2.4GHz, and up to five via Bluetooth.
A small OLED display is integrated into the top of the keyboard. This screen provides information such as connection status, battery level, and current polling rate. This feature is particularly useful for users who frequently switch between multiple devices and connection types, as it offers at-a-glance feedback without the need for additional software.
While the L99 is the focus of the announcement, the L84 also adopts the same three-mode connectivity and low-profile switch design in a more compact 84-key layout. Details for the L84 have not been fully disclosed, but it is expected to deliver a similar experience in a smaller form factor.
The launch of the L84 and L99 through Makuake reflects NIZ’s approach to directly reach the Japanese market with crowdfunding support. Backers will receive early access to the keyboards before general availability. No global release date has been confirmed at the time of writing.
These new models expand NIZ’s lineup of electrostatic capacitive keyboards, a category favored by users looking for a quieter, non-contact typing experience that retains the feel of mechanical switches.
